About James Anderson
Author of Succeeding with Habits of Mind and founder of the Habits of Mind Teachers Network James is an internationally recognised authority on Habits of Mind and an International Affiliate of Art Costa and Bena Kallick’s Institute for Habits of Mind. He is the founding director and principal consultant of MindfulbyDesign which focuses solely on supporting schools, businesses and the wider communities interest in Habits of Mind.
A highly experienced and engaging presenter with experience at all levels of schooling James offers a wide range of professional learning opportunities for schools interested in infusing and sustaining Habits of Mind into their classrooms, curriculum and culture. He draws on his own classroom and school leadership experience to engage teachers in highly practical learning activities that lead to improved learning outcomes in the classroom.
James has a long history of building and sustaining learning relationships with schools. He provides a full range of learning experiences from introducing the Habits of Mind, infusing the Habits of Mind into the curriculum, and leading school change to sustain the Habits of Mind. Among his many conference and workshop presentations he has successfully run the only 4 Habits of Mind Expo's (the first in conjunction with the Learning Network NZ) which featured Habits of Mind Schools from around the world. James shares these wide experiences through his workshop and conference presentations.
James has presented and collaborated with Art Costa and Bena Kallick on numerous occasions including at the International Conference on Thinking (Melbourne, 2006) and the ASCD national conference (Anaheim, 2007), Habits of Mind International Expo (2007), Mindfulness by Design (2008), First International Conference on Habits of Mind (2009), International Conference on Thinking (2009) He has contributed key chapters to several publications on Habits of Mind including Leading and Learning with Habits of Mind (Costa and Kallick eds., ASCD), Habits of Mind across the Curriculum (Costa and Kallick eds. ASCD) and Habits of Mind: A Resource Kit for Australian Schools (C. Owen Ed., ANSN).
